Ed Ellett, Biography
Ed Ellett is an Analysts-in-Residence focused on Digital Media & Entertainment (DM&E), Unified Communications & Collaboration (UCC) and Professional Audio/Video (ProAV) markets.
Ed is a trusted executive with 25+ years’ experience with high-profile companies such as IBM, Dell, Compaq, AMD, Polycom, and NVIDIA. He has led successful technology brands in the enterprise computing, communications software, and semiconductor markets. Ed started his career as a research engineer and programmer moving up through the ranks of product management, marketing, general management, section-16 officer and most recently CEO. This experience gives him a 360-degree view of a business and an instinct for finding the optimal blend of technology capabilities, business economics, and customer requirements. Ed brings an in-depth data analytic approach to product strategy, optimized for supply-chain management, eco-system, pricing, and go-to-market strategy. He understands the challenges that are faced with developing innovative products and services for customers through highly competitive markets, matrixed organizations and complex distribution channels.
Ed has capitalized on every professional opportunity from his entry-level role at IBM where he earned selection to a prestigious IBM Fellowship team. While at Compaq led the largest PC sales geography in the world to its highest sales out increase in its history for the legendary Deskpro product line. While at Polycom provided the vision, thought leadership and delivery of the companies most successful product line, the HDX, leapfrogging to undisputed product leadership in the UCC market and doubling sales. Most recent role as President, CEO and Board Member, metamorphosing private equity-owned Vaddio to a professionalized managed company and led the sales process to completion achieving an eight-fold multiple on EBITDA sale.
Ed is a technologist, business leader and avid musician with a deep passion for the DM&E, UCC, and ProAV industries. Creativity, rigor and focus have underpinned every professional endeavor, gathering and consuming all possible data and knowledge to optimize a confidence-buoying business plan for all stakeholders. He has led multiple high-performance organizations, worked beside and learned from several of the technology industry’s highest profile executives. Ed brings all these experiences to the clients of Moor Insights and Strategy to assist them in maximizing their revenue, profitability and customer satisfaction.
Ed graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He currently resides in the Silicon Valley area of California.
